Guard Your Heart
77Why Does God Tell Christians To Guard Their Hearts?
According to the way God designed and created us, our future is stored in our hearts.
Proverbs 4:23 "Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life."
Jesus teaches that we LITERALLY shall have whatever we say and that the words we speak come from the abundance (overflow) of good or evil treasure that’s in our hearts: our words determine our future.
Mark 11:22-24 “…Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass: he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them.”
Matthew 12:33-37 “Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is know by his fruit. O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”
It's important to know that whatever is in our heart, we put it there through our eyes and ears with Godly or ungodly TV shows, movies, music, books, conversations with friends, mentors, etc.
Faith is not ‘talk.’ Faith is an unstoppable FORCE that comes from the Word of God that WE put in our heart. It’s planted like a spiritual seed underground that takes time and patience to spring forth; but it’s definitely going to spring forth.
Fear works the exact same way. Fear is simply faith working in the negative because we believe Satan's lies: we believe the thing we don’t want will come to pass and that God’s promises won’t work for us.
Godly Words Bring Godly Results
What Goes In Must Come Out
This universal and spiritual principle (law) works for EVERYBODY whether we know about it believe in it or not- just like gravity, and the positive or negative results we get in this life are based on our own faith-filled words or our own fear-filled words.
Why should God work on our behalf if we don’t believe He is able, or that He won’t do what He promised? That’s fear, not faith. This is why He taught us to pray:
(Ps. 19:14) "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord my Strength and my Redeemer."
It is our job to put the Word of God in our eyes and in our ears in order for those words to enter our heart, and to KEEP putting God's faith-filled words in our heart until they crowd all fear, negativity and sinful junk OUT: for out of the abundance (overflow) of our heart the mouth speaks to determine our future. We shall have whatever we say and we are condemned or justified by our own words.
If we focus and speak about our lack, our sickness, how our relationships suck, and being ungrateful, etc., etc., we'll keep getting more of the same! Why? Again, the scriptures teach in Prov. 23:7 “as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” (that’s the reality he creates), and Prov. 18:21 says "Death and life are in the power of the tongue.."
This entire visible world was created by God’s FAITH and the invisible Words of God! We need to know that He created us in His image and in His likeness to do the same: to operate by faith, to speak what we want, and to take corresponding actions to shape and mold the future we desire in this earth.
Satan knows this and unfortunately, he is using this very principle in the negative to create negative circumstances through people he has deceived into operating by fear.
By virtue of the autonomy (freedom of choice) that God gave every human being, we are all in charge of our own future. God equipped us to shape and mold our future with the power of our words.
Faith IN God Connects Us TO God
What Is Our Purpose For Living?
We'll either use God’s Words to shape and mold an abundant life here and now like Jesus promised us, as well as inherit a Godly future in the new heaven and new earth, OR we'll use the world’s words, the devil’s words, words that oppose the Word of God to create a defeated miserable life here and now, and eventually secure an eternal future in the lake of fire called hell.
When it comes to making things right in our lives, we can seek God's help, but we can't do God's part, and He won't do our part, because He gave us dominion of the planet (Gen. 1:28). This means He equipped us with everything we need to make things right, and we have to learn how to use the tools He gave us.
It is the Christian's job to seek God's wisdom, to rebuke satanic activity in this earth with the authority God gave us In The Name Of Jesus, and to permit God's intervention into our circumstances by saying "Lord, let Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven" when we pray.
Finally, if you want faster supernatural results, don’t speak in the future tense for the things you want right now. Focus and speak only on the Godly things that you want for your life as if you have them right now because Rom. 4:17 teaches us to “call those things that be not as though they were!”
If you’re believing God for a husband or wife, a new car, house, better health, debt-relief, the salvation of a loved one, etc. say: “I believe I receive (whatever it is) right now according to the Word of God, and I thank You for it Father, in the name of Jesus!” Keep saying that over and over again until you have what you say – no matter what the devil throws your way to make you doubt.
It may feel strange at first but we're NOT lying when we do this. The spiritual seed that God gave us to plant will reap a physical harvest, and everything that's in the seed is ours right now!
Most of all, don’t let Satan trick you into cancelling out your blessing by repeating (speaking) any words of doubt or fear that the devil most assuredly will try to pour into your head, because this is the devil's way to make you dig up the faith seed you planted!
If you follow this simple plan, you’ll plant and guard a positive spiritual word-seed that must bring forth a positive physical harvest! Amen? Amen!

WOW. That's TRUTH! Rings TRUTH in my heart, yea, man of God! These are the Lord's words to you, brother! Only God knows the secrets of our hearts, and indeed some things are to remain quiet and secret within us. This is proven as to the time Legion called out His identity and He told them to be quiet! AMEN!
Well said my brother!!! Well said!!!
"Throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Messiah"...2 Corinthians 10:5
I will add if I may...no matter who they come from, even "friends and leaders and relatives too"...amen?
"And we can be confident that HE will listen to us whenever we ask HIM for anything in line with HIS will."
Obviously the key words there are 1-confident 2-HE, HIM, HIS will 3-listen 4-anything 5-ask
I believe we can expect HIM to listen only if we listen first, yes?
Keep up the good writing GOD has given to you David.
Shalom.....Todd Stephen
Wonderful Hub, and the best Rule of Thumb to live by. Matthew 12:33-37 is one of the best Scriptures! I just read that one about an hour ago!! Many Blessings!
Peace ~ K
we must guard our hearts with all deligence because Jer. 17;9 says The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. So it is naturally evil and must be Transformed daily.Romans 12 ;2 be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Great hub, I have written a few hubs on this very subject. It is important for us to be careful what we say, and what we do. Securing our thoughts in faith! Will bring forth positive results:) Keep on Writing!
Great, great, great hub! The enemy has been attacking my mind concerning my husband. I have been battling in my mind and refusing to speak negatively!
Friend, you are singing my song, waving my flag! You just cannot emphasize enough the importance of guarding the heart, monitoring your speech because our tongues set the course for the rest of life. And problem is: so easy to let all the vigilance slip. We need constant reminding. Thank you so much for such a good job of it.
I'm back for another read. This is a superb summary of so many faith principles it's definitely one to print off and read regularly...a kind of check list of how I am doing. Fount, I've done a lot of work in this area, but never came across the idea of the future being in our hearts. This is so clear and dynamic! What a concise image to hold on to. This whole hub is tightly constructed with a wonderful flow. Great writing as well as great insight. I'm inspired to do a better job with my own writing. Thank you!
I need to be reminded daily to guard my heart because I'm so easily distracted by people, places and things so this message really speaks to me. I need daily reminders that the enemy of my heart, mind and soul is at work to cause me to doubt my faith, to doubt God is at work in my life no matter what is going on in my life emotionally, mentally or physically because he wants to destroy me so I'm no good to be used by God but God is faithful to remind me that He can work with me whether I have faith as small as a mustard seed or as big as a mountain because it's He who works in me to will and act not my flesh so I have to guard my heart against everyone and everything so my heart isn't turned toward unrighteousness. Thanks for the message.

Oh, this ministered deeply to me. I have a "habit" of negative thinking, or premonition of the attacks the devil has planned for me. Indeed, I feel I simply "brace myself" in preparation. I've asked God for the gift of faith, in that I truly believe and receive His promises. He is alive and has spoken it, and the faith is what gives the Word its power in our lives. The devil obviously knows God's word literally, but he doesn't submit to it or "believe" in that same sense. Praise God for this message today, as I deeply needed the reminder and will practice this faith and know that it is the very power of God. AMEN!
